Holiday

I'm all set for a long weekend of travel...normal posting service will resume on my return!

Sailing ship earrings by Gabriella Kiss, discovered at evencleveland via dreams of gold and silver and A.N. Devers' Pinterest.

Also: golden noses, silver mushrooms, foot charms, tiny walnuts and sleeping birds.

Rainbow across my electorate

Before a final vote approved marriage equality in New Zealand, Maurice Williamson gave this short speech to the New Zealand parliament on same-sex marriage. Funny and brilliant. We need to follow their lead....

A jewelry store is an archive of the Earth

Jade is formed in dying oceans.
Rubies are made in newborn mountains.
Sapphires are forged from sediments washing off of land.

From here to here

“Benjamin and I sat in the middle of one of the large canoes with our grandmother in the stern, directing us past shoals and through rapids and into magnificent stretches of water. One day the clouds hung low and light rain freckled the slate-grey water that peeled across our bow. The pellets of rain were warm and Benjamin and I caught them on our tongues as our grandmother laughed behind us. Our canoes skimmed along and as I watched the shoreline it seemed the land itself was in motion. The rocks lay lodged like hymns in the breast of it, and the trees bent upward in praise like crooked fingers. It was glorious. Ben felt it too. He looked at me with tears in his eyes, and I held his look a long time, drinking in the face of my brother.”

Shāh Chérāgh

Shāh Chérāgh in Shiraz, Iran, is a funeral monument and mosque.

How amazing would it be to stand in a place like this!?  I imagine it would be like being inside the worlds largest cut emerald.

Emerald

The worlds largest emerald.
The world makes some crazy stuff.
It was an act of devotion. A little like writing or loving someone—it doesn’t always feel worthwhile, but not giving up somehow creates unexpected meaning over time.

my mantra right now.

A Handful of Dust

I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
