ABC

I’ll never find out now
What A. thought of me.
If B. ever forgave me in the end.
Why C. pretended everything was fine.
What part D. played in E.’s silence.
What F. had been expecting, if anything.
Why G. forgot when she knew perfectly well.
What H. had to hide.
What I. wanted to add.
If my being around
meant anything
to J. and K. and the rest of the alphabet.

Wislawa Szymborska, 1923-2012.

Hello

via witanddelight

I stopped by Calvert 22 to see The Forgetting of Proper Names exhibition this week and found myself strangely mesmerised by Agnieszka Polska's two video pieces.
Here is a link to one of them: The Calendar

Go and see the show if you get the chance!

Harry Callahan

I came across these images in The Guardian this Saturday, i had forgotten how much i like Harry Callahan's work!
These images are of Callahan's wife, Eleanor, and daughter, Barbara, in and around Chicago in the 1950's.

See more of Harry Callahan's work at the new Photographers Gallery at the V&A, London.

“I think there are lots of different kinds of thinking. Your hands learn to do things that you could spend a whole day trying to write about and articulate. What’s intuition? It’s a kind of thinking. It’s not stupidity. And so I think there’s a discomfort associated with trying to put all those different ways the brain works together. So I kind of like to avail myself of that discomfort.”

“It’s odd to be in the studio and not know what you’re going to do. I think being an artist and choosing to put yourself in a circumstance where you don’t know just how things are going to work out and what you’re going to do is very exciting and rich and also difficult.”

"The human frame being what it is, heart, body and brain all mixed together, and not contained in separate compartments as they will be no doubt in another million years, a good dinner is of great importance to good talk. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. "

"Not only have I always had trouble distinguishing between what happened and merely might have happened, I remain unconvinced that the distinction matters."
