Corinne Vionnet

Corinne writes on her website; 'Series of photographic works entitled "Photo Opportunities", from hundreds of snapshots of tourist locations culled from the Internet.
By collecting and then bringing together successive layers of around a hundred similar "photo souvenirs",
these images conjure up questions about representation and memory of places.'

Kiki Smith: Lot's Wife

Lot's Wife. Kiki Smith, Courtesy Pace Wildenstein, New York

Kiki Smith is fond of certain women for the mistakes they make. Lot's wife, looking back in spite of prohibition from god's messengers and lusting for what she has to leave behind; Mary Magdalene, the sinner banished to the wilderness for her repeated failings of the flesh; or Lilith, the first female prototype in the bible, the first of many women to be expelled.

She re-imagines traditional images of women and i like this sculpture of Lot's Wife, for its sympathetic portrayal of the biblical character. Her sorrowful head turned back, to her past and her people, covered in part with real salt. It evokes empathy from the viewer for Lot's wife, even if God punished her.

Lot's Wife

The just man followed God's messenger,

vast and bright against the black hill,

but care spoke in the woman’s ear:

‘There’s time, you can look back still,

at Sodom’s red towers where you were born,
the square where you sang, where you’d spin,
the high windows of your dark home,
where your children’s life entered in.

She looked, and was transfixed by pain,
uncertain whether she could still see,
her body had turned to translucent salt,
her quick feet rooted there, like a tree.

A loss, but who still mourns the breath
of one woman, or laments one wife?
Though my heart never can forget,
how, for one look, she gave up her life.

Anna Akhmatova

Carolina Silva - Zashiiki-Warashi Drawings

All images belong to Carolina Silva and you find more here and here.

Carolina writes about these watercolours on here website...'The appearance of this spirit is that of a 5 or 6 year child. Zashiki-warashi can be found in well-maintained and preferably large old houses. It is said that once a zashiki-warashi inhabits a house, it brings the residence great fortune; on the other hand, should a zashiki-warashi depart, the domain soon falls into a steep decline. As the zashiki-warashi is child-like in nature, it is prone to playing harmless pranks and occasionally causing mischief.'

Awolnation- Sail

Turn it up!

Sail!
This is how I show my love
I made it in my mind because
I blame it on my A.D.D. baby

This is how an angel cries
I blame it on my own sick pride
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Maybe I’m a different breed
Maybe I’m not listening
So blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

la la la la la
la la la la la oh

la la la la la
la la la la la oh

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me, sail with me
Sail!
